How to Find Yourself Back When You’re Feeling Lost

What Does It Mean to Find Yourself?

Finding yourself is a selfless process that runs through everything you do in life. To be the finest version of yourself to the rest of the world, you must first understand who you are, what you value, and what you need to provide.

It is a personal journey that each person should undertake. It involves peeling away the layers that don’t serve you in life and don’t reflect who you are at your core. Apart from that, it needs a significant amount of preparation to recognize who you want to be and focus on achieving your goals. 

You must be ready to acknowledge your personal power while also being vulnerable to your experiences. It is not something you should be afraid of or avoid. Instead, go after it with the same enthusiasm and excitement as you would for a new friend.

Over a million people around the world believe that finding oneself is a selfish objective. It is, nonetheless, one of the most selfless practices that will help you grow as a person. It’s not tough to find yourself if you know what you need to do and take action. 

1. Unplug to reconnect with yourself

It’s easy to feel alienated from yourself in a world where we’re continuously engaged with different forms of technology, such as social media. We can connect with everyone on the globe at any time thanks to modern technologies. It has evolved into a technology that allows us to access an infinite amount of information in a fraction of a second. 

Unfortunately, it has led to a growing sense of isolation from ourselves, one another, and life in general. We have “virtual” reality thanks to computer and communication technologies, which implies “nearly like or very similar to, but not quite the same as.” For a long time, technology has served as an escape from the realities of life in this way.

Have you ever tried a one-day, one-week, or even one-month digital detox? Do you become nervous when you think about it? Disconnecting from the digital world isn’t the only benefit of unplugging. Rather, it’s about prioritizing your mental health and focusing on what matters most to you.

I recommend that you make it a daily habit to disconnect mentally and emotionally from all types of technology, even if it’s only for an hour. Remove all distractions and focus on your surroundings and others. This will assist you in locating the stillness that feels good to you and allowing you to journey within in a way that feeds your mind, body, and soul.

2. Take Big Chances

Ask yourself if you’re playing things too safe right now. I get bored and uninspired whenever I linger too long within the confines of my comfort zone. The main reason why so many people are dissatisfied is that they prefer mediocrity to take chances. Because they don’t want to rock the boat, they take a safe and sensible approach.

The status quo is far more secure. In fact, we are drawn to it by nature. This theory is backed up by breakthroughs in brain imaging technology, which show that we are programmed to avoid risk. Playing it safe, on the other hand, will get you nowhere. This, in my opinion, is the quickest way to feel lost in life, and it is not the best method to learn how to discover yourself.

You would never change if life were always predictable. As a result, you would never mature. Life’s only constant changes. You will be left behind if you refuse to travel the changing train. We can only learn who we are and who we are not by being uncomfortable. This is how we get to be the best versions of ourselves.

3. Block out the noise and dream big

There will always be some who disagree with your life path. There will be opinions and judgments no matter what you do or say. It’s entirely up to you whether or not you accept them. When people start letting others direct their lives, they find themselves in difficulties. 

Don’t let anyone tell you that the things you want in life are too pricey or unattainable if you want to discover how to find yourself. Remaining true to yourself entails staying in your own lane and establishing your own sense of self-worth. When we begin to conceal our dreams, we are taking the first step toward accepting less than what we truly desire in life.

Don’t be afraid to take a chance and have huge dreams. You are the only one keeping your back, so get out of your own way. Even the world’s most successful people were mocked for their ambitious aspirations and dreams. Did that put a halt to it? No, and it didn’t stop you either.

4. Challenge Your Internal Narrative

You must begin challenging your internal narrative if you want to transform your life and develop a healthy relationship with yourself. If you keep repeating things like “I’m lost” or “I’m unfixable,” that is exactly what you will continue attracting into your life.

The “default mode network” in your brain correlates with your inner dialogue (DMN). The DMN is where your never-ending “story of me” begins. It’s the part of you that is constantly concerned about what might happen and what others may think. It’s easy to get locked in a mindset where you allow yourself to be comfortable with things that don’t make you happy when you’re feeling lost in life. 

You might embrace this truth if you fall into the trap of identifying as “lost” for a long time. What is the tone of your inner voice? If it’s negative, the good news is that learning how to find yourself can help you reprogram disempowering belief systems that have kept you rooted in one spot.
